Another interesting point about cameras.

This article highlights a simple hack that let's you find unsecured
video cameras using Google:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/01/08/web_surveillance_cams_open_to_al
l/

As it turns out, many companies put up video cameras that allow web
access and then forget to password-protect the web site. So anybody with
internet access can view the feeds from their camera.

I wonder how secure the cameras at Columbia are. Could we find them over
the web? (I actually did try some searches one day, but came up with
nothing. I've been meaning to check what brand of video camera Columbia
uses.)

I personally think anyone who can figure out a way to hack into the
video camera that's in our seminar classroom should get an A in class
:-)

Perhaps you could cross reference your lists here:

http://www.mediaeater.com/cameras/

or change your route home according to the info provided here:
http://www.appliedautonomy.com/isee/

and obviously, facial recognition software isnt far behind
http://www.wired.com/news/privacy/0,1848,48664,00.html (this was written
over 3 years ago)

The final paragraph sums up some of the arguments we were making today
(but is still lacking the spin needed for mass appear or understanding).
"Individually, however, Gunn envisions a place for iSee. "It's analogous
to using PGP all the time. I don't know who's bothering to read my
e-mail, but it has symbolic value as a statement of the right to
privacy."
