[CPC] Vista On The Consumer-Side

This may be a little divergent from yesterday’s discussion, but does
anyone have any thoughts on what effect Microsoft’s lifecycle policy
will have on the consumer-side in terms of getting users to upgrade
their XP software when Vista is released? Even if Vista adoption is
sluggish, at some point Microsoft will stop releasing security
updates for XP. This would give all existing XP customers little
choice but to upgrade (or risk being exposed to those flaws).

Alternatively, given the clout that Microsoft has in markets outside
their operating systems business, how would any tie-in affect their
business? For example, Microsoft announced a few weeks ago that
their popular “Halo 2” game would only run on the new operating
system.
