Chris - Excellent essay.

I too wholeheartedly believe that the system is a anachronistic to current realities of the music biz.

While I think you did a great job, I feel that the essay would pack a stronger punch if you added some prescriptions to fix the problem. The point that the RIAA system does not accurately showcase "success" with the same tight correlation as it used to is a good one, but it might be made in a shorter, quicker swoop leaving you time and space to discuss how to move forward.

Given the current realities of illegal downloading, youtube or imeem listening/viewing - what would you say would be the best way to objectively judge success. If, because of current realities, there is no such objecitve method, I think it could be noted as well.

I am interested to hear what you have to say.
