American Legal History

Empire

The federal nature of the first British Empire, and in particular the understanding of the British North Americans about that federalism, is at the root of American constitutional development, which is less "revolutionary" and more "counter-revolutionary" and "imperial" than our folklore permits us to convey. Here, we relearn our "Founding" history.
