I usually say that I want to be a lawyer because it combines my love of research and writing with my desire to give back to my community. Truthfully, though, my decision was greatly informed by my parents. What began as a family joke -- that I should become a lawyer since I like to argue – apparently crept into my subconscious over time. While I don’t regret my choice, particularly because my perfunctory answer is true, I do want to be certain that my career is something I truly enjoy and not simply what I was told I should do.
