The joke in my family was that I should go to law school so I could defend my cousin, who is a surgeon, when she gets sued for malpractice. I never took it as more than that until I spent a summer at a small law office and had a very active role in a case where some local youth had beaten up a pair of defenseless homeless men while they were sleeping in a park. It's not an uncommon thing (unfortunately), but actually speaking with the victims really struck something in me. I came here very much with the "save the world" mentality, but at this point I'm hoping to simply find my niche and make significant progress, wherever that may be.
